One nice thing about SWA is you can cancel a purchased ticket and use the value on another ticket. This works for most fares, even the non-refundable ones. I've used it lots of times.
The key line-item for non-refundable fares is:
Fares are nonrefundable but may be applied toward future travel on Southwest Airlines for the originally ticketed passenger only.
Might be worth it to buy your ticket now and watch the fares. If SWA comes up with a lower one in the next 3 months, you can cancel and repurchase at the better price. Note that the replacement ticket has to be for the same person.
