I picked up this Harrah's AC $100 token for cheap. It was encased in some type of lucite or acrylic. Here's how I removed it.


I picked out a hole saw that was slightly larger in size than the token. I used the centering bit to only get the hole saw started, probably 1/8" or so. Then I removed the centering bit and continued without it.

This shows the progess of the hole saw about half way through one side. I held the lucite block using a vice grip c-clamp, used to hold sheet metal together

Here is the token "plug" drilled out from the block

Heres a view of the side of the plug. There is 1/16" +/- of lucite around the edge of the token. I then placed this plug in my freezer for 2 hours. The temperature was about -5 degrees F.

I used the vice grip again to hold one side of the plug, with the plug in a freezer bag. Using a ball peen hammer with the plug on a cardboard box on top of my concrete garage floor, I hit it with a medium strike on the lucite. Much to my surprise, this is what was left

Pretty cool. Not sure if this would work on an encased chip, as it is more porous than a metal token and much more brittle.
