My father put personal effects into a storage locker before being shipped off in WWII. Among the items were my great grandpappy's Texas Ranger revolver and other Texas Ranger stuff plus a lot of Grayson, Texas things. One of his sisters was supposed to pay the rental but when he returned in '45 the rent not having been paid, the contents had been sold. I suspect that there may have been a law protecting service people's things but if so it wasn't used and so the family lost most of its Texas Dumas heritage.
