That's strange for Nevada, but whenever I tried to buy a chip at a California Casino, through the years, I was told they don't allow it..that I have to go to a table game and buy it from a dealer.

Side note: that in a way actually works better, as they have many chips visible, and will usually look to give you a nicer condition one..
