Re: What is your favorite chip? Its a tie.

I agree with Bob - I too like a lot of chips, and can't narrow it down below the three shown below.

The one on the left is more than just my favorite die-cut metal. How many die-cut metal chips exist that has your last name (COVINGTON vbg) on it?!? I purchased it from John Benedict at the first convention I was able to attend - Convention #2 at the Aladdin in 1994. Also while at this convention, I was able to trade for the white chip (THANKS Professor!). Last year I was able to get the yellow chip, and am still looking for the Black chip and the Blue chip!!! (yet some people believe that the Black chip and the Blue chip are one in the same...)

The one in the middle reminds me of the Aspen Trees I loved to see while I was growing up in Colorado - If you haven't seen a mountain (or valley) covered with Aspen Trees in the fall - then you have missed a very beautiful site indeed.

The one on the right I had a chance to purchase at the Silver Mine on my one and only trip to Cripple Creek (back Dec. 1993). I had been chipping all day in Cripple Creek, and was down to my last $20 (Cash). When I walked in to the casino all the tables were closed - I talked to the bar tender about the possibility of buying some chips. He said that he had to get them out of the safe, and wanted to know how many $5's and $25's I wanted. I was amazed - yet panicked since I only had $20 left - not realizing that I could had gotten some money from either my wife or my brother, who were both with me... So I told him that I would be interested in four of the $5 chips. He told me to return in about a half hour. We walked around Cripple Creek, and returned at the appointed time. I purchased the four chips and left. On the return drive to Denver, it dawned on me that I could have bought one of the $25's after borrowing some cash from either my wife or brother, and started to kick myself! Even though at that time I didn't collect $25's. Did I mention that the Silver Mine closed a few days after we were there... NOW I HAD TO HAVE THAT CHIP!!!
At the 3rd CC&GTCC convention (my second...) I found the chip at Betty and Vince's (B&V Coins) table for $32.50. I was ecstatic, and gladly purchased it. Vince sold it to me for $30 - and I thought that was an added bonus!!! Later I found out that the chip was worth more than the $30 that I had paid Vince. Since Vince and I have had done a lot of business together, I went back to his table and indicated that I had found out that the chip he sold me was worth a lot more than what he had sold it to me for, and that I didn't want to take advantage of him. I finally convinced him to take some chips from my trade book to make up the difference. (A total of 11 $1 chips a mix of current and obs...) Vince was shocked that I had insisted that he take some chips... Yet both of us were happy with the 2-day transaction!
To this date, each time I see Vince, he asks me if I would like to see some of his $25's!!! vbg

Regards,

Dick

P.S. Bob, all the images I post were made with my HP scanner... Which one did you have problems with? What software were you using?
Mine is a HP ScanJet IIcx, and I use DeskScan ver 2.3.1a to acquire the images and import them into PhotoShop 5.1...
