I'll explain the whole situation and let the members decide what is ethical. I'll abide by the decision of the consensus.
In the last two weeks eBay has on about 1 out of 3 auctions sent out an old address. The others eBay has provided the correct address. I have talked with eBay Tech Support and gave them auctions this has happened on. They checked and can see where I deleted the old address in 2007 and that all my addresses are current. They also see where their system is sending out the old address on occassion and they don't know where it is coming from. They are still trying to find out why this problem and why after 5 years it would suddenly start. One thing they and I agree on is that the addresses I have in my profile are correct.
Obviously this is not Fred's problem as he didn't make the mistake and we both know eBay is not paying for it.
I bought 2 chips from Fred at about the same time and paid him $1.75 each in shipping (which was probably reduced from his regular postage, I'm not sure.) Fred is mailing the 2 chips together at a cost of $1.64. He asked for me to provide an additional $1.64. I asked if since I had paid more than double that and the two chips are being mailed together he would not be out any postage. Obviously he is out time and effort.
I'm interested to hear everyone's response. My account sent him the wrong address but I have also paid enough postage that he is not losing money on shipping.
I have bought from Fred before and want to be fair. If the consenus is I should pay the additional money I will pay it. I don't think the amount of money to either one of us is the issue, it's just a difference of opinion.
Thanks and I welcome any input.
