"History repeats itself, again."
Okay, so it wasn't Yogi and maybe the quote is more like: "Those who do not look back are doomed to repeats!"
Seriously though, I found this ad to be very interesting. If one assumes that The D will, at some point, do a redemption on the Fitzgerald chips, then their business model for this ad is to promote these chips to the tourist based visitors, who will likely not be a position to use the redemption process. (Note, even the ad states these are the last days of the Fitz chips being "in play".)
Moreover, as "collectibles" the only thing that is worse for Limited Edition chips (other than too many of them) is a worn and used Limited Edition chip!
As I understand this marketing effort, The D has put all of their on-hand Limited Edition chips into play. While they may have been there before, this action will certainly make any uncirculated Fitzgerald chip a better collectible than what is left.
Do we know if The D plans to destroy Fitz chips at the end of them being "in play"?
It is also interesting to note that this ad shows a Silver Strike. As I understand it, Gaming Regulations would prohibit them from offering strikes (from the cage) at greater than face value and right now, melt value of $10 Gaming Token (a Silver Strike) is better than $10!
I can see the Silver Strikes (at $10 each) being an investment opportunity, but not the chips.
