Back in the Civil War era, a fellow named John used to run a game in a booth in Wylk's Bar. He carried a derringer which he placed on the table to keep things honest. No poker chips in those days, so it was a cash game.
The Key West poker regulars often got together in John Wylks Booth.
The game was closed down in 1865 after John headed north and was never seen in Key West again.
