First, thanks to all who attended the ChipGuide seminar at the convention. It was a blast. We went over the history of the ChipGuide and all the enhancements that were made to it over the last year. We recognized the contributors and especially those who made major contributions. We also recognized all the ChipGuide Administrators and they were given Museum of Gaming History logo'ed hats. We had a couple of Pop Quiz's, congratulations to the winners. I gave a brief tour of the ChipGuide Update Facility showing how a chip goes from submission to placement on the ChipGuide. It's always a blast for me to do these seminars, especially to such a receptive and knowledgeable audience.
Unknown to the audience, until the end of the seminar, they stood witness to the merger of the Caribbean ChipGuide into the ChipGuide. That is correct, I donated the Caribbean ChipGuide to the Museum of Gaming History's ChipGuide. 9,451 items (mostly chips) from 756 casinos in 38 island/countries were merged into the ChipGuide. Why did I do it? I did it because my vision for the ChipGuide is to be the single resource for collectors to find all the information available for casino chips wherever they were used and whatever they were used for. I want to encourage all those who have casino chip (or other collectible item) websites or catalogs to do the same. It was tough letting go, but I knew it was the right thing to do. The Caribbean ChipGuide will be around for a while, but all updates and new additions will only go on the ChipGuide.
At the convention I had many conversations with collectors about the ChipGuide and what improvements they would like to see. I got many good ideas and will be working on them. Some can be done quickly and some will take a while. And there were also conversations with the MoGH Board about some major enhancements that we will investigate. So we ain't done yet, we are still working on ChipGuide improvements.
