You picked a tough chip to scan. There are a lot of fine details that make it difficult. I took your scan and retouched it, this is what I got:

Increase the dpi
The sample did scan at 200 dpi
I scan at 266, some scan at 300
Fred, as general rule, I always scan at 300 dpi...
