Steve,
That is what went through Brian's mind when I posted on Facebook. As I told him, I do not make deals in tournaments. But, WSOP one table satellites is another story. I have been playing those for over 25 years & you HAVE to make deals in them sometimes to end up making money. I have played as many as 15 satellites in a day back in the old Horseshoe WSOP days. Play one cash or get knocked out & right on to the next one. Plus they only last at the very most 90 minutes & that is if you cash. In a tournament I want to know how it would turn out after many hours of play or days if it is a big event.
In the one today, a $175 satellite, we got down to three of us & one was Archie Karas. Google him if you do not know who that is. It will keep you reading for a while. I had not seen him in a few years. I have known him for years now when we met through a mutual friend. Anyway he is a very good player. All three of us were about the same in chips with only about a $100 difference. Also, we had all put in $20 for a last longer bet, so with that $200 & the $120 from the satellite we ended up getting a $100 each, plus a chip & toked the dealer $20. All of that combined made for a split in my mind.
Now yesterday when I also played a $175 satellite & we got down to three & a deal was proposed I said no & won it. Three chips plus $100 with $20 going to the dealers. In that case I did not know the other two & was not all that impressed with their game. Plus I also had about two thirds of the chips.
Also, all the talk of the WSOP & Brian could not take it any longer. He IS coming out during the weekend of the convention. Friday night through Sunday around noon. We decided YOU are buying dinner!
We also have that dinner that Charles Kaplan owes us, but I don't think we will be able to do that this time. He can pay up next year.
