They used to celebrate for a week ...people used to dress up in period costumes...there were beard growning contests "whiskerino" I think they called it, and bathing beauty contests...people got locked up in the "hoosegow" for not dressing up, or for other infractions of the fun that was available to all ... the casinos used to do elaborate floats; there were 3 parades, with a different theme every year...
