Here are the 8 varieties of the black hotstamped NEVADA-mold free-play chips that I've found from Circus Circus in Las Vegas. TCR lists two more:
V6864 $1 Purple marked "Crap Game Only" (not Craps?)
E0252 $1 Burnt Orange, marked "BJ or Roul Only"
I'd like to get these two if they really exist as described. Even if you don't have one to sell or trade, if you have it in your collection, could you post a good scan for the record?
This might be a good time to discuss the question that seems to come up every couple of years. The two "black background" chips are listed in TCR as Altered and Damaged. They are very neatly and professionally done. Some speculated they were done with a felt pen by someone with time on their hands.
I think the were done by the manufacturer... method unknown. There's no indication of any kind of paint over the hotstamp so I think the hotstamp was done last. Has anyone found a historical record that would indicate how and by whom these were made? They are pretty hard to read, and I can't imagine they would be accepted by the casino in that form.
Maybe a manufacturer prototype that wasn't practical?
