I agree with most of your analysis here, Peter, except for one thing. I am not a big believer in using the constitution to micromanage the details of the club's organization. Because changing the constitution is so difficult (just as with the U.S. Constitution), I believe that this fundamental document should address organizational matters only in the broadest possible terms, leaving details to the by-laws and other policy decisions. This will provide the greatest flexibility for meeting the changing needs of the club and the hobby as the club grows and the hobby changes.
I do agree that more specific rules would probably have made the current problem less likely to arise. However, I would rather have seen the rules set forth in the by-laws or even a simple policy directive from the board (the equivalent, if you will, of an administrative regulation). ----- jim o\-S
