If not 8-4, how about 8-5?

In reference to an earlier post about who plays the 8-4, here's proof that sometimes a donkey can win with a little luck. The hand represents a heads-up between the last two standing. I was the big blind of over $60,000 and had a slight chip lead. I raised with 8-5 to $120,000 and was immediately called with AK suited. Flop came two pair for me and a nice club for him. I checked, he bet $60,000 and the turn was good for him -- giving him a 10C for straight flush draw. I called his bet hoping not to see another club. What showed up was the perfect card. It was the 8C -- giving him the nut flush and me the full house. I checked and he said "all in." I couldn't get my money into the pot fast enough. Upon seeing he was beat, he jumped up from the table and shouted to the large crowd, "Nobody, plays an 8-5!" It was the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat emotions all in one hand of poker. I won the ship's championship after playing all week to qualify and he went home empty handed since it was winner take all. The moral of the story is: "Any two cards can win in Holdem', it's just how lucky you get on the river and you have to be a donkey at heart."
