I use them on occasion. Not all the time, but it's convenient if I'm not going to be around when an auction ends.
It also facilitates discipline. Commit to the max amount you will pay, then if the bid survives, it's yours. If not, you weren't tempted to bid in excess of your value. I win some & lose some.

One other benefit -- one time, my computer & internet connection was acting up, and I couldn't access ebay for a last minute bid. But with a snipe bid set in advance, you don't need to worry about outages on that "must have" chip. Just my opinions.

It doesn't cost much -- minimum of 25c, and for more expensive items, about $1 per $100 in value.
