Ebay Selling Strategies/Tips

I have been an ebay chip buyer for years - but only recently started selling on ebay as well. After 4 or 5 runs at selling - I have figured out what I think are some better practices and thought I would share them here - as well as ask for others to share advice and tips on how to maximize your return from selling on ebay. NOTE: I am selling $1 house chips only - mostly common, a few less common.

1. Quality of Pictures makes a big difference - I now post high quality with a black background - they stand out well and get more attention

2. Time of Day - I make sure to post at the earliest early afternoon EST. This makes sure the west coasters are awake as my auctions are concluding.

3. Day of the Week - I make sure my auctions don't end on a weekend day - buyers are paying less attention

4. Keep a tight window - I try and post all the chips I am selling as quickly as possible keeping a tight window of time between the earliest auction ending time and the latest ending time.

5. The mix is key - By posting a variety of more and less common chips at the same time - I have gotten buyers to bid on some of my more common chips to take advantage of shipping discounts.

6. S&H Charges - I am interested in hearing what combo of shipping charges and incremental additional chip charges works best. I have been using $2.00 for the first chip and .75 for each chip thereafter and it seems to work - but I am not sure this is optimal. My actual cost to ship a single chip is about .65 depending on which clerk I get at my local PO - and can be as high as $1.95.

7. Starting Price - I have been using .99 on all $1 chips - I would like to hear if people think this is the best strategy. I have certainly sold my share at .99 (plus $2.00 S&H) - and my high is over $12.

8. Length of Auction - I have done some at 5 days - some at 7 days. I dont have much patience so I prefer the 5 day auctions. Any experienced ebayer have an opinion on the difference?

9. Descriptions - I have not spent much time on giving Detailed Descriptions, basically assuming the picture tells the whole story. I am thinking perhaps some more time spent on this will have a positive effect?

Anything I am missing here? Any advice from experienced ebayers?
