As David says, there are different varieties and several casinos use each type. The difficultly is knowing which version is used where, and whether they only ever used the one variety. I hadn't realised that there was a new 'G' chip in play until I picked some up in Coventry last month as traders, just to discover when I got home that they were different from the previous ones that I had!
UK casinos also have a habit of using the chips from previous owners - Pleasurama chips were in play for many years after Grosvenor took over the casinos, and many of the ex-Stanley casinos (now Gentings) are still using Stanley casinos.
At least it means we find new chips when not expecting to
