say those writing guidebooks in just about every collectables field are most likely dealers as they handle more of those items than the general public.
The point that should be remembered is that the value of a chip has nothing to do with what is says in a guidebook (Although thats a good starting point).
True value is based on one thing and one thing only....... What someone is willing to pay for that item.
I have seen chips sell for 10% of guide prices and I have seen chips sell for 300% of guide prices.
In my opinion the best use of a guide book is to let you know what's available, information about that item and a guesstimate on what that item may be worth as a starting point.
At least thats they way I see it.
