Is there anyone out there who is familiar with how old chip distributors operated? Russ Baker and I have, between us, a dozen chips with the identical FB hot stamp. Did distributors send out a stamp die to other distributor houses for stamping or did a customer demand they stay in one distributor house as a measure of security? Russ got his chips from a Cincinnati estate sale and I found my Hourglass chips also in Cincinnati. I feel they were used by the same person. I don't believe in coincidences. Here is another thing I discovered. Looking through old Cincinnati city directories. I found that Vernon S. White of White's Club Room Supplies occupied 308 W. 4th St. in Cincinnati from 1943 to 1952.
Ralph C. Rigdon of Rigdon Co. first appears in 1948 at 406 Elm St. in Cincy. Then in 1972 Rigdon's address becomes 308 W. 4th St., White's old address. Rigdon's last entry is 1983. So it appears Rigdon had access to the same dies and when White left the scene Rigdon could take care of his old customers. White was a known distributor with the Lazy Diamond mold and Rigdon with the Hourglass mold. I believe, that since Rigdon had access to a lot of White's dies and the FB appears on both distributors chips, Perhaps White was the X Mold distributor. No one seems to be sure who distributed the X mold but I always had a feeling it was White's. Too much of a coincidence. I can't prove any of this but, It's how it looks to me. Any thoughts??????
