In fact, 2 years ago at the convention I publically announced my donations of several framed chip plaques at the banquet.
My understanding is that all museums have the right to dispose of excess or duplicate inventory thru sales. Many well known museums regularly hold auctions or even sell items on Ebay. These funds help support operating expenses and in a way are as important to the Museum as those items that are displayed.
Now I am not saying that the MOGH would ever sell donated items, but it is common practice at other museums and even places like the Hard Rock.
Obviously items on loan wouldn't apply, but for those items the tax benefits arent the same as donations.
Thanks for the questions and hopefully I was able to answer some of them.
