Counterfeit confederate notes are common. (tongue twister!). There is a resource somewhere on the web that contains a list of serial numbers known to be counterfeit, reproductions, souvenir notes, etc. There is a similar source for serial numbers of fake Colonial American notes. There are companies that sell reproduction notes as educational items at historical sites for as little as a dollar apiece, just as they also sell replicas of the Declaration of Independence or the Magna Carta.
