ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Atlantic City police say an officer fatally shot a wandering deer that was considered a potential threat to itself and residents.
The deer was first seen around 4 a.m. Saturday running through yards, playgrounds, an apartment complex and near an entrance to ACH, the casino formerly known as the Atlantic City Hilton.
Authorities told The Press of Atlantic City (http://bit.ly/pSRctS) that they initially tried to keep the deer contained and notified wildlife officials, who planned to shoot the animal with a tranquilizer dart.
But the deer continued to evade capture, and eventually was shot and killed by an officer around 7:15 a.m. after officials determined it had become a potential threat.
