----------------- My message to seller ----------------------

Hello ----- the slabbing of casino chips has become a matter of some controversy among chip collectors. Many of us, myself included, feel that slabbing is bad for our hobby and have therefore signed the pledge set forth below. You are the first dealer I am aware of to offer a slabbed chip for sale. Apparently, you are not normally a dealer in chips and therefore are probably not aware of our opposition. I am reproducing below the most recent bulletin board message on the subject.

Perhaps you would reconsider participating in this process? Feel free to sign the list as well (it is not limited to members of the club). If you would like to do so, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Jim Reilly

[Included Andy's then current list, which I am omitting here.]

----------------- Seller's Response -----------------------------

Jim,
Buy what you like. Don't buy what you don't like. Freedom of choice that's all we offer. Don't condemn those who have items which don't meet your criteria as acceptable. I don't like liver, but I still buy from the butcher! .....................Melissa

---------- My follow up to seller (no response from her) -------

Hi Melissa and thanks for your response.

Of course, everyone should do that -- and presumably will.

> Don't condemn those who have items which
> don't meet your criteria as acceptable.

Not condemning anyone, Melissa, just making an economic
statement. Everything we do has consequences. Those who
have signed the pledge not to buy from dealers who sell
slabbed chips are just letting them know that the
consequence in this instance will be a loss of business.
Perhaps you don't sell a lot of chips and therefore our
boycott will have no effect on you. I actually hope that's
the case, because this is not personal.

> I don't like liver, but I still buy from the butcher!

An invalid analogy, as liver presents no threat to your
ability to buy whatever you like. Slabbing does and we
don't want it in our hobby. If you are interested in
learning more about the subject from a chipping point of
view, please visit chip collecting's most popular bulletin
board at:

http://www.thechipboard.com/cgi-bin/tcb/config.pl

You can find extensive conversations on the subject in
Archives 9 & 10, as well as on the current board.

Sincerely,
