Every employee handles 1325 pieces of mail per day. At $.44 each that is $583 per employee. Even if the average employee is making $250 per day with bennies that still leaves over $300 per employee per day for expenses. I know that media mail doesn't go for $.44. But don't forget those millions of Priority mail items every day for $5 each. I think $.44 is a very conservative income number. Ever since it stopped being a government operation and went independent it has gone downhill and rates have gone up a huge amount over the inflation rate. There sure must be a lot of additional overhead if these guys can't make any money at these rates. And remember that since they are a govt entity they probably pay no property tax much less any income or sales tax. Too bad someone can't just go and buy them and run it independently.
