I've always wondered about the metal coated inlay on the chip. Once I thought it was just metal added the the old sailing ship chips. However, The metal coated chips are translucent, where as, the others are solid, two totally different materials. No light can come through the chips without the metal. I am guessing your metal inlay chips are translucent around the rim as well. It appears the metal was applied in the mold at the time of manufacture. Since the design is identical, i think the same company made them both. Have you seen an original box of these chips?
