We should have introduced it years ago (a la Swiss Postal Service) where passengers pay a fee to ride along with a bus delivering bulk mail to distribution centers.

I rode on one over the Swiss Alps (Simplon Pass) into Italy for a small fee; visiting mountain-top towns hardly ever visited by tourists, where the mail was dropped of. A passenger could get off wherever they please; have lunch and enjoy the sights while reboarding the bus on its return rout. Helped pay the fuel costs for the PO and also was a bargain for the tourist..
