Rick and I were both with Scott, the Tournament Manager, when he re-racked all the 5K's. (Not that there is a significant difference, but there were 2 missing, not 3.)
I say embarrassing, because earlier in the game it was noted by Andy Hughes and a few others that the tournament chips were heretofore unknown. Jay Sands was at the table and Andy suggested to Jay that during a break, Jay should ask Scott if he could take a picture of the set of chips for recording purposes for TCR. Jay thought it was a good idea, but he was still feeling the effects of an earlier injury and in discussing the opportunity with Jay, we decided that I would ask Scott (whom I've met on previous occassions at the poker room) about taking a picture of the complete set of NCVs.
About 20 minutes later, Scott tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to an empty table where he had the set of 5 NCVs set out for a picture! Wow, what a nice guy! And not only that, while thanking him, I asked about their daily tournament set and discovered that they also had a 5K NCV, where I thought the set only went to 1K. I politely asked it was possible to see the 5K and perhaps take a picture of it. Within minutes Scott returned with both the 1K and 5K of the daily set and allowed my to take a picture of them.
Again, what a nice guy and when I happened to be present at the moment in time that he was racking up the 5K's to the special tournament set (the set we used for our tournament) I for one was chagrined and embarrassed! This guy was bending over backwards for us and someone(s) was giving us a black eye!
This past weekend, I stopped by the SouthPoint and had a discussion with Scott. Scott said that in addition to the 2 missing 5K's, someone also made off with a 25 NCV!
While I have a bit of a different perspective (tolerance) on the harvesting of tournament chips, I would never, ever, entertain peeing in my own pool!
Given the search that Scott did, after we left (looking under the table rails and under the tables) it was ruled out that the missing chips disappered by accident, and in all likelihood, they disappeared at the hands of Club member(s) presently unknown!
I would strongly suggest an anonymous return of the chips and be done with it. Feel free to mail them to me (sans a return address) and I will post that I received them and return same to Scott. This is a serious offer and one's anonymity will be protected.
