just curious....do you have to go to a clerk to send mail, or can you just buy a sheet of stamps and then drop into the mail box? I just figure that if some clerks charge less than others, as long as the lower value ones are still getting delivered (and from what I read from this thread that is the case), then could you not just buy 88c stamps in one go and always use those?
Same thing seems to happen with international shipping for me - some clerks here (In the UK) charge regular airmail (cheaper for single chip, more for packages) for anything and some always insist on 'small packet rate' if there is anything other than letters inside. I have worked out which ones are best and do buy stamps in advance if I know I will have several to mail.
