We rent a car everytime we visit Las Vegas. We have used Dollar, Hertz, Alamo, and probally a few others. My only complaint the past few years is about their insurance. In March of 2010, we rented from Dollar. The person helping us was very friendly untill we got the the part about purchasing insurance. When I told her that we had insurance and I did not need their's, all the 'friendly" was gone. I almost felt threatened by some of her comments. I vowed to never use Dollar again. This year in March 2011 we rented from Thrifty. It was almost the same theme. Very friendly interaction with the service person. When we got to the insurance part and I said we already have insurance, it wasn't as cordial a conversation. I am not sure if these people work for commission or just hourly. I do believe they really push the insurance because they profit so much from it. (their insurance per day cost's almost as much as the daily car rental fee). So it wasn't just Dollar Rental, I think they all are about the same.
My advice is check with your insurance company to see if your covered, Check with the credit card company you use to rent the vehicle from to see if they offer any coverage (mine does for a very small yearly fee $25.00) and bring a copy of your Car insurancce policy with you when you rent your car. If you are purchasing a Package Deal (Expedia, ect) check to see if the Credit card company insurance coverage is still valid, another words, you may need to rent the car seperate and pay for it by itself for their insurance to cover you.
Other than isurance being a pain, I see very little difference between Car Rental Companies. All offer late model, well serviced vehicles. I have never had any other problems with any of them.
Just my 2 cents...
