Many of our members, especially our long time ones are particularly proud of their member number.
While a member number doesnt specifically represent ones committemnt to the club, it does signify how long that person has been a member.
I personally feel that it is ufair to those long time members to allow reinstatement of a number if a member has not paid dues in many years.
Just as seniority levels in a working environment generally are not reinstated once an employee has been gone more than a few years, it seems like a good practice to not automatically allow that member to regain their old member number.
As Steve said, anyone can still get their member number back by paying past dues, just as they are allowed to rejoin with a new number without paying anything extra.
Obviously any idea can be discussed, but I think you will find most long time members would oppose this idea.
Just my personal opinion.
I was looking forward to meeting you in Vegas and hope you can make it next year.
