Sorry- I still pair Barrick together with their past partner and current Plaza/LVC owner Tamares group. Somewhere I even recall hearing that both were subsidiaries of a larger parent company.
Regardless of who has owned the hotels during what point in time, their combined (mis)management and conditions of both make me wish Jackie Gaughan had never sold them. I have never been much of a fan of Barrick or Tamares.
In this quoted article, I notice that it is mentioned that Tamares also got control of the Nevada Club (boarded up and painted like the Golden Nugget) and Queen of Hearts (demolished in early 2010 for new city hall building. I can only wonder about the state of the other 40+ properties around downtown......

Tamares Group, a privately owned international investment company, will buy out partner Barrick Gaming Corp.'s minority interests in downtown Las Vegas, the companies announced Monday.
The financial terms of the sale were not disclosed, but Tamares will own outright title to the Plaza, Las Vegas Club, Western and Gold Spike hotel-casinos once state gambling regulators approve the deal.
Tamares also will get the Nevada Club and Queen of Hearts and more than 40 other commercial and residential sites in the downtown area.
Barrick's combined downtown holdings had been valued at more than $200 million this spring."
