If you go to yard sales to find chips (and/or other things) you should consider doing what I have been doing this year. At every sale I go to I ask if they have any jewelry or old silver coins to sell. I didn't have any luck today but I did pass out my card to 5 or 6 people who had either jewelry or coins that they may sell. Yesterday I went to one of those 30 mile long yard sales and managed to buy 3 OZ of sterling silver jewelry for about $5.50. I also got a whole box of Cowens 20 coin pages for $4. I then went to the semiannual coin show (where I got the $3000 chip last year for $20) and bought a $40 silver strike (1.5 OZ .999 silver) for the same price as a $10 strike ($22!). The day before a lady down the street had a yard sale and sold me 1.1 OZ of 14 KT jewelry for $300. I have not tried to sell any of the stuff I found but I have to think that if I can buy it for less than 1/2 of what it is worth I won't lose money. And with the cost of gas today any profit sure is nice. You just never know when you will run into someone who has a bunch of chips. One lady today told me a story about her grandmother who used to be a card player during the post-prohibition days. She apparently had her own set of chips but the lady had no idea what happenend to them. The fun is in the hunt.
