Some early Caribbean chips were silver in 1820s ~~

~~~ at 'le Cercle (club) du Commerce' on Guadeloupe... Probably the first chips depicting anchors and palm trees from the Caribbean. They were probably the first to have octagons in 1825 as well.

Not too many found in change down here, though... grin as they catalog in the $1000 range in French chip book.
