That okay - I was just interested how you and others felt about other parts of our ethics code might have applied to this situation.
I don't know the seller (Joe). I've never bought or sold anything from him nor have I ever met him before. So I don't know his level of knowledge. From what I've read (and I haven't read his side of the story), it sounds like he told you had the chips then backed out of the deal when he got better offers.... I agree that the transaction shouldn't have been handled that way.
I've been collecting chips for I guess almost ten years... I've bought and sold some chips over those years but I'm no expert on every chip's value. I might make a mistake from time-to-time. So let's say I was selling off some of my $1 chips and I thought they all were worth "about" face. As a result, I might ask around $2 for each of them. If by chance I had one in there that was worth $25, then I would hope someone would say "pssst... Brian, you're a knuckle head. Don't you know it's worth more!" instead of jumping on it and snatching it up. I understand not everyone feels that way. If in my example, I had listed a chip and told someone they could have it at that price then I would still honor that deal and sell it for the price I agreed to.
