I hear you. I' ve had mine for about a year. Weight of the model 1 is my only real negative, but I doubt that a quarter pound will make much practical difference. The new detachable case will be nice; I bought a 3rd party case which works well, but it appears that Apple's new case will be better. Since the operating system was updated a few months ago, I've noticed it takes a second or so longer to paint the screen, but it's certainly not a problem.

If I had a model one that could be returned at no charge, I'd swap for the new one too. Delivery should start next week. Good luck!
