First of all I'm not sure why, but my efforts to get young people interested in chip collecting has been very unsucessfull. I have 3 kids and spouses, and 5 grandkids over 21. They all have friends, and I have shown all of them my collection, and even given chips, some rare chips to the male grandkids. I can't get anyone to be really interested. They all are very busy, and just don't seen to think collecting chips is for them. So it is my opinion age 21-40 is a very hard age group to get interested. (ofcourse exceptions are out there).
I agree advertising is the key. But, we must target the right segment of people. 1. Males 40-60 would be a good guess. Not to say the gals aren't interested, but 80% of club members are males. (my guess correct me if I'm wrong). What goes with chip collecting? Gaming, poker players, and collectors in general. How do we reach these people. Asdvertise in casino mag's, poker Mag's, and and publication that is read by gaming folks.
Get them to the convention if possible, get them to our board, and get them a free copy of our Mag. Also, maybe get to retirees, who have the time and $ to start collecting. As mentioned cross over collectors, to give our hobby a try.
These are just thought starters, that can be improved on.
