At the Tropicana Coin Show I spent some time talking with Lew, who was the source of my information. Contrary to what others have posted, Lew does not grade chips. His title on the business card is at it relates to coins. I asked him about that, hence the clarification. As I also stated, Lew is seeking knowledgeable chip people to be graders, as each graded chip must be graded (in the blind) by four graders and then submitted to the level of ICG for formal sassignment of grade. However, prior to the four graders performing their review, chips will be submitted to lower level graders in the geographic region of where the chip is, and then passed on if warranted. Lew is also doing a search for those lower level graders.
I can only guess where the technical expertise for all of these graders will come from.
