Allan Myers sent me an email to inquire about the Derby chip as mine is the only one he had ever seen. Here is my reply to him.
Yes, it was a giveaway in the Race book, when you made a $10 bet.
They were in a key chain. I had it for over a year before I ever got any information on it. I found the guy that sold the key chains to the MGM. He said he put 2,500 of them in key chains. I called the race book at MGM, no one ever heard of them. The manager at the time dug around and confirmed my information. But there were none laying around the race book.
Mine is the only one I ever seen, until last year. Skip Harouff brought a guy into the Fiesta that had 2 of them for sale at $75. He worked at the MGM race book. He said his were the only 2 he ever seen. But get this!!!!!! He had a 2nd different KY derby, MGM, chip with no year on it. It was white and also a Paul-son. He said it was also given away in a different year. He wanted $100, I passed. He said he would put them on ebay. Don't know if he did or not. He sent me a scan of the white one, but I can not find it.
Rare???? They can't be. But where are they? 2,500 is a lot to put in customers hands and none show up. ???????????????
If I were you I would drop the $200 value down. I did not know it was listed at that high a price.
