Ron,
I think your original scan was much higher dpi than 150, your scan does not do justice to the chips - as somebody has said before that scanning images, i.e., chip scan is very good enough if it shows the "true color" and gives a strong semblance of the original chip.
I am using Epson Perfection V500 Photo - faithful enough to show me true colors and close reflection of the chip. My first scanner was HP 2600 Model which was doing good but not so good as this Epson now which is a "true blooded" machine.
Try experimenting different "dpi(s)" and different "modes" take note of the other features that you enable with different dpi and modes also.
