Size.. Most counterfeits I have encountered are smaller than a real bill. Compare to another bill in your wallet. If it clearly smaller, chances are if it is fake.

However, the feel is the key. As you stated there is no wood pulp in a real bill. Take a piece of paper and a bill and compare the difference. You will immediately notice the difference!
