Man hits $7.3 million jackpot at Harrah's A.C.

A Trenton man only known as "Tom" won more than $7.3 million Tuesday playing slots at Harrah's Resort.

Harrah's officials confirmed the jackpot, saying the Trenton, Mercer County man was playing a Wheel of Fortune progressive $5 machine at 9:05 a.m., in the casino's Diamond Cove section.

Casino representatives say "Tom" — who declined having any more information about his identity released — hopes to buy a 1967 Camaro with the jackpot winnings. He also hopes to share the millions with his family and friends.

This is the casino's 30th anniversary. Harrah's opened Nov. 23, 1980. According to company officials, the man visited the casino on opening day.

Now, 30 years later, "Tom" celebrates the second-largest jackpot in Atlantic City history.

Jay Snowden, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Harrah's Resort and Showboat Atlantic City, said the jackpot marks a special way for the casino to celebrate its anniversary.

"We have some of the most loyal customers in the world, and it is even more rewarding that this jackpot winner has been a patron to our casino and part of the Harrah's family for 30 years."

The jackpot falls about $3 million short of the winnings notched by Galloway Township resident Josephine Crawford in 2006.
