mentioned anywhere in a long time. Most folks know the story of Lefty, but Marty Kane and Joey Boston were a couple of operators among the "sporting crowd" back during the time you're describing. Oddsmakers, bookmakers and sports bettors, they did it all, inside or outside the confines of the sports book. Apparently, not all of it was on the square, as some of their activities got them both listed in the Black Book.
Just seeing the names made me think of some of the sporting crowd from back in the 70's and 80's. Guys like Bob Martin, Johnny Quinn, Jack Franzi, Lem Banker, Gene Maday, Mel Exber and Sonny Reizner. Some would set the odds/lines, some were accomplished sports bettors and some, the finest book operators ever! Thanks.
