Ok sports fans.....here is the exciting conclusion to my unique, scarce, rare, error chip!
What I have here is not any of the above forementioned, but rather a damaged chip! How could that be, you may ask? The answer is all in the history and having a scan of the back of the chip.
As it turns out, this chip was in the fire. Either the heat or water or both cause the chip to take on the colors of the chips in front and behind. It just so happens that the front of the chip was up against a chip who's inserts just happened to line up with the spaces between the inserts of this chip. The backside shows the green mystery inserts as misaligned and thin in color. What was really oddd is that the mystery insert colors are different. I think probably because of the oddball color of the original inserts.
Most interesting.
Thanks to Larry Hollibaugh who took a whole 22 seconds to return an email to me with the answer.
For those newer collectors.....he is a perfect example of why you should ask questions. If you have noticed here on the chipboard, no matter how experienced a collector is.....no matter how long a collector has been into the hobby, they ask questions.
Happy chippin' Terry
