Re: New Wrinkle on slabbing....
In Response To: New Wrinkle on slabbing.... ()

In this case of 25 $100 fight chips - if someone came in and bought all 25 as soon as they were released, the chips would be in uncirculated condition. Why bother to pay someone to put them in plastic and label them as uncirculed? The chip will bring just as much on the market if it were put in a flip, or cardboard holder. One chip in a slab should not demand any more money than on in a flip. They are both in the same condition. The buyer looks at the chip in the holder and says to himself "This looks pretty good, no nicks, no scratched, nice and clean, must be in uncirculated condition." He either buys at the price offered, or doesn't. Now the same chip as slabbed, will have to demand at least $15 - $20 higher so the seller can recoup the cost of slabbing, grading, postage to send in the chip, investment time, etc. I still see no advantage to slabbing a chip, especially an uncirculated, out of the cage, chip.
