As many of you know, I collect $25 and 25 cent chips from Nevada and I have an extensive collection. Included in my collection are most of the $25 LE chips issued in Nevada throughout the years. I'm questioning if I should continue to collect LE chips and if I should cash in many of these chips from my collection. From what I see, most of the chips do not have a value above face at this time.
Right now, I am evaluating my collection of LE's from the Tropicana. While they have changed ownership, I checked with the cage and was told that they still accept the older LE chips (but for how long is unknown). I have every LE issued (all 68 listed in TCR - total face value $1700). Most are from issues limited to 100 chips and there probaby not many still outstanding. So, they are rare - but - not in demand.
For the sake of maintaining my collection (one that includes LE chips), I run the risk of losing significant value if/when the casino no longer accepts these chips.
If it was just the Trop, I could keep checking with them. But, it is also many other casinos - Gold Coast, Palms, Bally's, Mandalay Bay, Paris, Harrah's, Hooter's etc.
On the other hand, most of these $25 LE's are rare, mainly because there are only a few of us collecting them. And, if there was demand in the future, I would be able to sell some at a premium to offset some of the loss. (Of course, I paid over face for most of my chips, acquiring them from LE dealers.)
Interesting topic. Just looking for some input. Or if anyone is interested in a bunch of LE's, let me know.
Thanks, Nate
