If you haven’t read the “Illegal Of The Day” Tennessee” thread, this post is attached to it. Printers Alley was a cluster of illegals in Nashville.
Added 9/17/10: “Illegal Of The Day Tennessee”
Maybe the “illegal Of The Day” posts are a good thing in more ways than one.
A few days after the Tennessee post Jim Linduff emailed me and said one of the KY boys had a Black Poodle chip that he really wanted to tie to KY. I must have ruined his day.
When I go home to KY we always try to get together at Larry Trapps closed restaurant, Peyton Place, to talk over KY chips, Roy Klein, Jim, and myself. Two or three other KY Boys usually stop by. So I know most of them. There are always tall tales, speculation, and a lot of fun. I don’t think the KY boys have ever forgiven me for wrecking the ID they had on the CC in a horseshoe hub.
I told Jim to try and get me the Poodle chip for a decent price. Roughly a week later I got the Poodle chip in the mail as a gift. Thank you my friend. This is what the hobby is all about. I will find something for you someday.
I still need the Voo Doo Room chip to complete the trio. Will buy or trade.
The chips were sent to James Floyd Barnes, died Nashville 1986 age 73. In his late teens Barnes worked in a printers shop--perhaps his introduction to Printers Alley? Barnes was associated with what was described in 1965 as a "large illegal gambling enterprise" in Printers Alley which had been in operation since the early 1950's. This place was known as the Uptown Dinner Club or Uptown Club.
Barnes had two other chip orders from Taylor sent to him at 210 Printers Alley the address of the Black Poodle order. Some ordered a week before the Black Poodle order.
