feel free to shoot me down as you see fit
The details:
* Both chips are almost new and show no signs of wear.
* Both chips have the same uniform color on both sides, it really does not appear that one has been affected by UV/sunliught in any way. I've seen a heap of UV affected chips & neither seem to be affected this way (IMO)
* The hot stamps on both chips (while one is stronger) are also nearly identical.
After thinking it over I have come to two completely & utterly unsubstantiated conclusions.
1) It is indeed the same chip but it was manufactured using 2 different batches of blanks. I don't know if they do/did this but it would seem possible. Two batches of blanks made at different times using a slightly different color mix, both stamped at the same time to fill the order. The experts would be able to confirm whether this is even possible or has happened before.
2) It is a re-order of the same chip? I don't know if these were ever re-ordered though?
Other than that I'm stuck. I really don't think this is a victim of sunlight though. In a lot of other chips there were reorders which produced noticibly different shades. Even in the Paulson color samples, the same color can be vastly different depending on when they were manufactured.
I guess now I'll just have to start buying up New/SU Castaways 50c Dicar molds & see if there are an equal amount of the two different color shades? Proabably my only hope of answering the question in the near future.
Cheers, Tim.
