So I did my second garage sale hunt around my city, this year, and came across these ashtrays.
Upon talking to the owner, learned that her father use to own the Dewberry Hotel in Dewberry, Alberta, Canada (population 202). Her father owned it for over 40 years.
Decided I wasn't going to buy them BUT before I left she told me that these ashtrays were used often in a private card room (during the 60s and 70s).
Well, this caused me to reconsider.
As we chatted more, she told me that she remembered they use to use poker chips with 'chuckwagons' on them. I, of course, asked if she had any of these chips but she did not.
When I got home, now with these ashtrays, I did a little more research and learned that the village of Dewberry is home of the "World Chuckwagon Race" and also has the largest chuckwagon in the world. It made sense then, that the chips they used at this card room had chuckwagons on them. And that the hotel still exists as a 6-room hotel, with a pub/bar (where they have VLTs now .... VLTs are is similar to a slot machine, except that it is connected to a centralized computer system that determines the outcome of each wager using a random number generator).
It is always great to learn and discover something new.
If anyone would like these ashtrays, I am willing to trade them.
