I have friends and relatives that logged that country for decades. I have a bunch of pictures of that era and of the 2 towns that surrounded it.
I am in the process of assembling a paper on all of the gaming that took place in Valley and Elmore Counties prior to Jan, 1951. The day Gambling left our state.
Another note if interest. Each nickle machine in Valley County generated $500 for the community that mostly went to the schools. In 1955 most of the jerseys worn by the student athletes were the same ones used in 1951. Sad. Fast forward 25 yrs. Logging mills started shutting down 1 by 1 mostly due to the spotted owl and other environmental pressure. Rail lines have deteriorated to a point that is no longer safe. Today these communities are vacation destinations.
